NOTES: I was reading OotP before HBP’s release, was in the middle of reading a Sirius scene and was suddenly attacked by bunnies! Here’s the first.
He was staring at the ceiling again, the play of dark, oppressive shadows swirling above him, reaching for him, insinuating themselves into his soul.
The faint click of the door make him lower his eyes, twist his body so that he rolled, back to this intruder, this hope, this sanity.
Soft sigh behind him before the bed dipped slightly and a warm, lithe form tucked into him, long fingers caressing his arm.
“You’re not meant to be back yet.”
“But here I am,” Remus murmured and Sirius finally relaxed, tore down the veil of jealousy between them and let his head fall back on his friend’s shoulder.
“I don’t want to be here,” he gasped, tasting thick, salty tears in his throat.
“Funny that,” said an equally-shaking voice. “I want to be here more often.”
Sirius managed a choked laugh before turning to bury his head in Remus’ neck.
“Where did the future go, Moony? Because I don’t see a way out.”
He was drawn closer into a protecting embrace, encircled with love and he breathed it in, savouring the moment, realising just how much he’d missed this.
“We have each other, Pads. We’ll make our own future.”
And for the first time in weeks, Sirius believed.
