‘You have to pick a side…’

She froze me. I tried to help, I tried to talk – it’s all I can do for her. ‘I can’t sense her’: a broken record full of nothing.

‘Good or Evil. That’s how it works.’

Some days, I think I made the wrong choice. An errand boy, a go-between, a lapdog – or a corner of the Underworld, a low throaty chuckle and an eternity of warmth?

Could I kill for love? Could I be dark – for him, could I do it?

It doesn’t matter now.

‘Even though it means giving up someone you love.’

I have a loving wife. We’re going to have a baby. I have family, I have power, I am needed, I am loved.

I don’t have him.

‘You have to choose.’
