The Cage

There's a line you mustn't cross

There's a sign you cannot pass

No cyclists on the pavement

No chewing gum in class

The best food should not be eaten

Certain words you're unable to sat

Getting 'high' is immediate damnation

Through life there is only 'one way'

There is only one certain solution

To escape this cage without a key

Rules, regulations and barriers -

Only in death can we be free

Secrets

There's a whisper;

Sudden revelation

A tale told

A confidence given

You mustn't tell;

Anxious fears

Will her trust

End in tears

A silent nod;

Meant to reassure

But her eyes betray her

This secret isn't secure

There's a whisper;

Secret displayed

A tale retold

A confidence betrayed

Demon Within

Creeping evil in my soul

Pushing thoughts into my mind

Speaks of danger yet untold

Urges us to look behind

Swift as eagles' flight to spread

The messages of fear

Whispering voices in my head

Warning me of danger near

Shadows flicker in the light

Everywhere is murder

Unspeakables you cannot fight

Push your flailing boat out further

Devils invade your very core

Saying battle is on every side

Then, you realise you're evermore

Destroyed from the inside

Strangers

Our shoulders brush

Contact for the briefest second

An anchor in the daily rush

A physical call beckoned

Our eyes met

There, in the busy street

A single thought kept

The fantasy was sweet

But, it was only a glance

A brief crossing of ways

Just a random chance

In life's complex maze

For we were strangers

Too afraid to try

Never thinking of the dangers

Of opportunity passed by

Misera

Smiling eyes in a pleasant face

You watch her in a crowd

She never seems to show her heart

Her true thoughts can't be found

She knows no one is watching

At least with no intent

Slipping silently into the night

Like a ghost she went

Drifting like an autumn leaf

The mask fades away

And all that's left is misera

Who never goes away

The bridge was meant for crossing

But meaning isn't sure

She steps onto the railing

The breeze is fresh and pure

And as she takes the final step

Floating on the air

Her voice rings through the darkness

'Why does no one care?'
