AUTHOR’S NOTES:
When you realise you’ve reached the tenth part of a series, you realise you’re
a bit obsessed.
I liked this
episode. However, not a lot to write about. L I loved the funky candles, and seeing
Apophis is the gold again was a hoot!
Enjoy!
Daniel wandered
aimlessly //As lonely as a cloud? Don’t go there//, contemplating.
He had realised
many things because of this. //Great, it took Teal’c’s death to wake me up! I
need stronger coffee// He had seen many emotions, the tight bonds that had
formed – the ones that did not crumble. //Unlike so many, so often//
They had so
much – that could end in a heartbeat. Destroy them all in an unstoppable
emotional wave. //I never knew I could be so…stupid//
Daniel stood
outside the infirmary, before pushing open the doors. He walked in, the candles
casting a strange half-light over the room.
“Daniel
Jackson, I am glad to see you.”
“Hey Teal’c.
How are you feeling?”
Daniel sat
carefully, as if afraid to disturb something, something fragile. //As I’ve done
before, ruined everything//
“You are
troubled, Daniel.”
“Just thinking,
Teal’c.”
The Jaffa kept
silent for a few moments, observing. He did not need to ask anymore. Janet
hovered, conducting tests she had done only a few hours before. Teal’c knew her
goal, so remained quiet.
“Daniel, have
you slept since you left here?”
“Uh…yes. A
little.”
Janet pursed
her lips, but didn’t say anymore. She drifted away, and Daniel looked at
Teal’c. But his eyes were unfocused, not seeing what was there but the past and
future on distant horizons.
“You still love
her. There is no shame in love.”
“But to deny
love, to the one person who matters most…”
“She has
forgiven you, Daniel. You need not punish yourself.”
Daniel got up,
and lifted a candle from its stand. He studied the flame for a moment, before
turning towards Teal’c.
“Look how
brightly it burns, “ he said, in wonder, “determined to shine, no matter what.”
Daniel lifted
his fingers to his mouth, and touched the wick. With a faint hiss, the flame
was gone.
“And then it
goes, banished by one man’s actions. And nothing can bring it back.”
Daniel placed
the candle on the desk, and got up to leave. He passed Sam in the doorway, but
carried on walking. She seemed surprised, but walked in anyway.
She smiled
warmly at Teal’c, and nodded to Janet. Then, she noticed the candle. Slowly,
she picked it up and carried it to another one, tipping it. The candlewicks
touched, and the flame spread. She held the candle in her hand a moment longer,
before putting it back on the desk.
She looked up,
to see Teal’c smiling at her.
“What?” she
said, puzzled.
“You relit the
candle,” he said, simply.
