AUTHOR’S NOTES: Double Jeopardy was delayed, so
here are Entity spoilers. There was the commonly misinterpreted S/J, which is
really JUL, in this episode, so I thought I’d write heavy fic based on that.
Jack was Daniel’s worst enemy.
He loathed him, he despised him, for he had taken
the most precious thing in Daniel’s heart. Or, at least, if it had not already
been done, it was now. Jack was taking Sam.
Daniel had seen the looks, the gestures, the
hovering by her bedside, while he, Daniel, was trapped, vibrating within
himself, not knowing what to do, how to cope, where his life would be, and
then, as she lay there, dead, dying, he saw something in Jack’s face something
he had hoped to never see.
And the jealousy rose in him like a flame,
consuming him with hatred, fire burning with anger.
He turned on his heel and strode out, heading for
his office, knowing that at some point Jack would come to him, trying to tell
him of his victory.
Daniel collected some things together, then
prepared to leave. But, someone stood in his path.
“Hey Danny! That was a close one!”
Daniel glared sharply at Jack, eyes boring into
him, and Jack stepped back.
“Hey! What’s with you?”
Daniel pushed past him and strode through the
corridor, not turning back once. Until someone turned it for him.
“Whoa, slow down. What’s it all about?”
Daniel couldn’t contain himself any longer. He
lashed out, pushing Jack against the wall and holding him there.
“You have taken her away from me. I can never
forgive you for that.”
Daniel’s voice cracked, and he let go of Jack, and
fled towards the lift, wiping his eyes with his sleeve.
“Daniel, wait!”
Daniel strode on, and took the lift to the surface.
He got into his car and he drove. He drove so fast, to get away from the truth
that was haunting him, plaguing him. He thought he had meant something to her.
Obviously, he was wrong. He got into the house and he bolted the door behind
him. He ran and sat on the sofa, huddled into the arm and sobbed, openly crying
because of what he had lost.
The phone rang, Daniel unplugged it.
The doorbell buzzed continually, Daniel ignored it.
Daniel flicked through the television channels
during the incessant knocking that plagued his door.
Then, he knew he had to concentrate something. He
sat down at his computer, stared blankly at the screen for a minute and then
dialled up the Internet.
Suddenly, a Messenger window opened onto his
screen.
‘Daniel?’ it said.
Sam, he thought. Daniel
blinked away tears, closed down the window and disconnected the computer.
Slowly, he slid onto his arms and just lay there for a minute.
“I’ve lost her,” he whispered.
