Well, here we are again. The delay is simply due to this being Britain – and
Sky only now showing S5 episodes. Tk asked me to post this now – no disrespect
intended.
~~ “Sam, are
you okay? ~~
~~ “Just
thinking about Teal’c” ~~
//Liar// Sam
couldn’t believe it.
//We haven’t
even said a word. But, do we have to?//
Sam sat down in
her office, and studied her coffee cup. Apophis was gone. Teal’c was
brainwashed. Dad was playing racket-ball with Jack. Daniel…Daniel was missing.
He had drifted
like a shadow, and only for the briefest seconds had she caught him. When he
had forgotten his anger and his pain, had glanced at her for familiar comfort
and met her unsure glance. When she had touched him for a moment, wanted so
much more…
Sam rested her
head on the desk, wondering how she had let it go this far.
“Can I join
you?”
“Sure.”
Sam answered
without thinking, then glanced up with trepidation. Daniel stood in the
doorway, resting against the doorframe. He had obviously been there a while.
Watching her.
He smiled
awkwardly, and held up a paper bag.
“I brought
cookies.”
Sam smiled
tiredly, as he set the bag in front of her, settling himself across the table.
“I can handle
this, Daniel, you don’t need to…”
“Can we?”
Sam looked up
at him, but he had looked away, up and pacing around her office.
“Daniel?”
“I know you
love him. You’ve always loved him. But…maybe we can’t handle that.”
Sam watched
him, wondering why his words hurt so much, why she couldn’t accept their hidden
meaning.
“We can,
Daniel,” she said, shakily, “We’re strong…”
“Look at us,
Sam!”
He turned,
almost angry, and slammed his hands on the table.
“I can’t live
like this. Not knowing if I could lose you to him, any day now…”
“It won’t
happen, Daniel, I prom…”
“Can you
promise, Sam? Say that we’re forever when we can’t weather this one
uncertainty?”
The room fell
silent, as they stared at each other. Sam couldn’t believe this was real.
“What are you
saying?” she whispered.
“The truth,
Sam. Only the truth.”
Daniel walked
out, shutting the door gently behind him. Sam would’ve preferred a slam; and
indication that he was ill or irrational, anything to stop the truth sinking
in.
It was over.

For them,
maybe. But this series will last a little longer, methinks.
